Samuel Nartey George, the minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation has reacted to the minority leader Alexander Afenyo Markin slapping a police officer.
The Communication minister stated that those who said his words were justification for two ‘national security’ operatives attacking him are today slapping a policeman.
Sam George in a post on X accompanied by a video of his attack by National security operatives during the Ayawaso by-election stated, “The very people who said my words were justification for these attacks by two ‘national security’ operatives today are slapping a policeman who was simply doing his job?
Hmmmm. This life is truly a cycle. We pray for long life and good health. Cheers. 🦁🇬🇭”.
His comments come after a video surfaced yesterday 4th May 2025 of Alexander Afenyo Markin punching a police officer at the Save the Judiciary demonstration by the NPP and other political parties.
In the viral video, Afenyo Markin and some other protestors were captured trying to break through a police barricade when the minority leader hit the police and called him a fool for preventing them from breaking through the barricade.
According to reports, tempers flared when Afenyo Markin was nearly denied entry into the Fore Court of the Parliament House for the presentation of a second petition to the Speaker.
Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to probe Constable Foson.
The minority leader in his petition claimed that the police officer during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration assaulted him.
Afenyo Markin in his petition described the officer as a tall, fair, and heavily built officer assigned to provide security at the entrance of Parliament House.
In his petition, Afenyo-Markin wrote: “Constable Forson assaulted me at the entrance of Parliament House during the demonstration.”
To counter what he describes as “misleading narratives circulating in the public domain”.
Alexander Afenyo Markin in an earlier statement issued on May 5, 2025, narrated the incident and claimed that Constable Forson struck him forcefully on the chest near his heart as he approached the barricade to present a petition.
He stated, “I was protesting the conduct of a Constable, who, without provocation, deliberately struck the left side of my chest dazing me and leaving me short of breath”.
“What makes this assault particularly egregious is that the officer was being openly reprimanded by his superiors and fellow officers at the time, yet he defiantly responded that he didn’t care who I was,” he added.
“We must not be distracted from the purpose of the demonstration. We marched to defend the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary—principles that must be protected at all costs,” he affirmed.
