The Minority in Parliament refused to partake in the vote for the approval of Minister for Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
According to Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Ablakwa’s approval is solely the Majority’s call.
“We abstain from the decision to vote for his approval and it is solely the Majority’s call. Let the sins of Ablakwa be upon their heads,” Afenyo-Markin told the 2nd Deputy Speaker.
Dramatizing his position, Afenyo-Markin literally poured water on his hands and washed them, an indication that the Minority Caucus had washed its hands of Ablakwa’s approval.
“Mr. Speaker we are washing our hands to tell them that with everything at Airport Hills, I am cleaning my hands to tell them that we are not part of the sins he has committed. All the Airport Hills sins are on their heads. If tomorrow ORAL starts pursuing you, it is on your head,” he added.
Afenyo-Markin however reiterated that if Ablakwa decides to repent and return to the house, “we will accept him”.
Okudzeto Ablakwa received immense support from the majority of parliamentarians to receive approval to be the substantive Minister for Foreign Affairs.
