Beatrice Annan, a lawyer and spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign team has questioned the application filed by Afenyo Markin at the Supreme Court.
According to Beatrice Annan, Afenyo Markin invoked the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court based on a wrong article, that is based on physical or mental disability.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, she said, “The applicants themselves which is Afenyo Markin said that they were before the Supreme Court to invoke the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 29(5) and this one I want to invite viewers sometimes when we speak, they say it NDC NPP today we will do a bit of law”.
“In any judicial proceeding in which a disabled person is a party to a legal procedure, the court shall take into consideration the physical and mental into account, who is disabled her, Afenyo Markin, the Speaker, or Dame”, she quizzed.
She further reiterated, “Whose mental condition this mental condition is people with mental issues or people who do not have the capacity, the person must show physical or mental disability so who is disabled here?”.
Beatrice Annan further revealed that the Supreme Court was bound to proceed with the basis of Article 29 filed, but the Supreme Court copiously left that because they realized that they were not disabled and then they came to a different Article which in itself isn’t applicable in this case.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has adjourned parliamentary proceedings indefinitely, citing the lack of a quorum as the reason for halting the session and briefly mentioning that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court.
