Ace Ankomah the Convener of Occupy Ghana has declared Ghana lost the galamsey fight to ourselves.
He added that their persistent letter warning of the dangers about galamsey felled on deaf ears which has allowed illegal mining to thrive.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Ace Ankomah detailed said, “The only good news is that we lost it to ourselves, so we can sit and fix it. We have lost it, some of the pictures we’re seeing are horrendous. They were not in that state when we first went to Tarkwa area in 2016, not even in 2022. Because if you show that you can’t regulate, everybody will dig in. And so now the kingpins are not only local people. There are foreigners who have come with money, it’s a free-for-all, we have opened the nation,”
His comment comes amid growing concerns about the environmental destruction caused by galamsey, which has ruthlessly impacted water bodies and forest reserves across the country.
