The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged stakeholders to move beyond the blame game regarding illegal mining issues in the country. He challenged them to identify and report those involved.
He condemned individuals who participate in or facilitate illegal mining while simultaneously attending meetings and conferences aimed at addressing the problem.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasized that chiefs complicit in illegal mining must recognize their wrongdoing and cease such activities immediately.
“Any chief who has allocated land for galamsey needs to understand that you have erred. If you return to your area and acknowledge that you’ve granted land for galamsey, then what kind of chief are you? It is wrong. We must be cautious,” he stated.
He also encouraged stakeholders to report any illegal mining activities directly to him instead of merely publishing news about them from behind their phones, emphasizing that everyone has a role in the fight against galamsey.
The Asantehene further indicated that he would take action against any sub-chiefs found to be complicit in illegal mining activities.
