Former Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed disappointment over the negative perception of politicians in Ghana, attributing it to the failures of the current government under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on September 22, 2024, Iddrisu lamented that being a politician today lacks the honor and respect it once held. He stated, “Nana Addo Dankwa and Dr. Bawumia have unleashed this disdain on every Ghanaian.
They should admit that it’s a failed government. There is no honor or respect even at the elite political level, with Ghanaians saying that ‘you politicians have no honor.’”
The lawmaker further criticized the government’s role in the current economic situation, which has driven many Ghanaians into poverty amid a rising cost-of-living crisis and the depreciation of the cedi.
He noted, “Today, the cedi, which was at 4 cedis, is now at 16 cedis. This reflects the cost of doing business and the harsh realities for everyday Ghanaians, showcasing the failure of this government.”
He emphasized that the skyrocketing cost of living has left many struggling to make ends meet, while businesses are grappling with high operational costs. “The cost of living has ballooned, and many Ghanaians are finding it increasingly difficult to survive,” he added.
