Reports suggest Lucifer’s Village harbours a network of illegal structures including brothels, bars and eateries all constructed over a large drain.

Joseph Asitanga, Environmental Health Officer leading the operation on behalf of the AMA revealed the place is a public health and safety nightmare.

He noted that structures were unauthorised and posed a serious risk to both residents and visitors.

The Environmental Health Officer further revealed that preliminary surveys conducted indicated the occupants at the Lucifer Village are foreign nationals made up of Nigerians and Togolese without a permit to operate a business in the country.

Joseph Asitanga speaking to the media stated, “These structures are built directly on top of a major gutter. There are pubs, brothels and other operations happening here — completely unregulated and extremely dangerous”.

The area has also been labelled as a hotspot for immoral and criminal activities.

The AMA served notice that structures at the ‘Lucifer’s Village’ will be pulled down to prevent unlawful occupation of critical infrastructure such as drainage systems.

Meanwhile, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) began its major decongestion exercise on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The AMA task forces, accompanied by the Ghana Police Service, carried out operations to dismantle makeshift stalls, and unauthorised kiosks, and remove vendors from pavements and roadsides across key parts of the Central Business District.

Day two of the decongestion saw the AMA team storm Kwame Nkrumah Circle and other places.

They revealed that the operation which will last for 2 weeks is to enforce city bylaws, ease congestion, and ensure the safe movement of both pedestrians and vehicles.
