The former vice president and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has mocked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over erratic power commonly known as dumsor.

According to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP for eight years in power was able to manage the power generation but the NDC in just four months is having a challenge.

He asserted that the NPP warned Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and erratic power commonly known as dumsor walked together but Ghanaians did not listen.

Speaking during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour”, Dr Bawumia stated, “Do you have a 24-hour economy with dumsor, we warned Ghanaians that as for the NDC, they and dumsor walk together. They walk together once they take one right foot like this dumsor also follows and then they are off working.

They are walking together and Ghanaians did not listen. Today it is obvious to everybody that we have a major problem something we managed for 8 years has become a challenge them in just four months”, he added.

Meanwhile, John Jinapor the Minister for Energy and Green Transition has stated there is no need for a one-day dumsor timetable.

According to the sector minister, Ghana is generating enough just to meet demand and we have no excess capacity when one plant goes off it creates disruption.

He asserted that they cannot publish a load-shedding timetable when they are sure that they can bring the plant back.

John Jinapor further pleaded with Ghanaians to give the government some time as they work on these challenges to ensure there is an uninterrupted supply of power.

Speaking to the media, John Jinapor stated, “We have enough generation, just to meet demand, we do not have any excess capacity and so when one plant goes down it creates immediate disruption which means we need to work around the clock to bring the plant back when we bring the plant back we are able to meet demand.

So, you cannot publish a load-shedding timetable when you are sure that you can bring the plant back. The truth is that what we inherited we have no reserves so we are generating just to make demands and it makes the system very tight”.

He added, “We have to be honest with the people of Ghana the generation and the demand are just at par. For some days your consistent supply may be one day within a week or two when the plant goes off you have a bit of disruption and because it is just one day how do you publish a timetable?

We are confident that getting into the next few weeks, and months the the plants that were down as we work to bring them back so if one plant goes off you can switch to the other plant”.

John Jinapor further reiterated that the power sector challenges they inherited from the previous administration will need a bit of time.

“In the power sector the challenges that we inherited we need a bit of time, but I am happy to know that we are making significant progress and as we go into the next few weeks we should be able to deal with some of these challenges to ensure there is uninterrupted supply of power”, he added.
