President John Dramani Mahama has sanctioned his appointees who defaulted on asset declaration.

The appointees who failed to declare their assets by 31st March are to forfeit 3 month’s salary and donate the same to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahamacares).

John Mahama stated, “On 18th of February 2025, I set a deadline of 31st March for all appointees who are taking office or being nominated at the time to declare assets. An update provided by the Auditor General to my office indicates that some of you failed to meet that deadline.

“For all those who were appointed or nominated before 31st March 2025 and failed to meet the deadline, you are forfeiting three months of salary to be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund named after me, Mahama Cares.

“In addition to one month’s salary that I have asked all appointees to donate to the Mahama Cares Trust Fund. So it means that those who omitted to declare their assets by the date, you are paying four months’ salary to Mahama Cares,” he said.

Fifty-four appointees under the John Dramani Mahama government have defied the president’s directive by not declaring their assets by 31st March.

Reports suggest, that nine out of Fifty-four ministers and deputies, eight out of thirty-two presidential staffers and thirty-seven of the Eighty-four heads of state institutions appointed by President Mahama have failed to declare their assets as of April 17, 2024.

According to the reports by The Fourth Estate, 32% of the appointees have ignored the president’s directive and failed to fulfil the constitutional obligation.

Alhassan Suhuyini, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways; Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing; and John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture are among the names of minister yet to declare their assets.

The presidential staffers are made up of the Presidential Adviser on the Economy; Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States; Nathan Kofi Boakye, Director of Operations at the Presidency; Charles Kipo, Director of the National Investigations Bureau; Nana Yaa Jantuah, a presidential staffer.
