Dr Okoe Boye, a former Health Minister has stated that the Tamale Teaching Hospital Doctors’ strike can be solved in just 10 minutes.
According to Okoe Boye, he called the new Health Minister Mintah Akandoh to offer him free advice but could not reach him.
He revealed that the way to solve the problem is simple and Akandoh did not mean evil.
His comment comes after the Tamale Teaching Hospital doctors suspended emergency and OPD services.
According to a press release the doctors are demanding an apology from Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini.
On Tuesday, the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) announced that its members would no longer offer services at the General OPD, Antenatal Clinic, Specialist Clinic, and Paediatrics OPD.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Asempa FM, Dr Okoe Boye stated, “I called my brother Akandoh, but I couldn’t reach him. I will give him free advice—this problem can be solved in just 10 minutes. The way to solve this problem is simple; the doctors are our siblings. Honourable Akandoh, you don’t mean evil. Instead of saying you have presented items, call the leadership of the Doctors Association of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
You are a minister; just invite them to Accra. Call the Ghana Medical Association too, for a meeting, and meet them in your conference room. There will be no argument. The agenda is that we are all brothers; let us allow peace to reign”.
He added, “You know that people want recognition; you can say sorry without actually saying sorry. You don’t need a formal letter of apology in this matter. A minister has paid for the airfare and flown the doctors all the way to Accra; this should set the tone for an amicable settlement. I beg him, he should invite them to Accra, and he can even let his deputy do the invitation. Korle Bu has a different environment, but during my time there, informal routes solved more problems than formal ones”.
Meanwhile, Yaa Naa Abukari II, the overlord of the Dagbon has sent a high-level delegation to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
The delegation led by Zangbalun Naa Dr. Yakubu II, Chief of the Zangbalun Traditional Area urged the Doctors of the Tamale Teaching Hospital to consider the lives that will be lost if they continue their strike action.
In a meeting with both the hospital’s management and representatives of the Doctors Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH), Zangbalun Naa Dr. Yakubu II delivered the Yaa Naa message.
Meanwhile, after the meeting, Tamale Teaching Hospital announced that emergency services had been restored.
A statement on the hospital’s official Facebook page read, “The intervention of the King successfully got the doctors to resume emergency services.”
