Emmanuel Kofi Asare a 27-year-old narcotics suspect has exposed police officers for demanding GHc4000 as a bribe to settle his case in court.
The trader in an explosive exposed the police officers at the Circuit Court in Accra.
He accused the police officers who caused his arrest of bribery and corruption.
The 27-year-old, charged with unlawful possession of narcotics plants, claimed police demanded GHc4,000 each from him and a friend to settle the case.
According to the suspect, his friend whose name was not given, was allegedly able to make the payment to secure his freedom.
He asserted that he was only able to raise GHc1,500 which was not enough and was not accepted, hence the decision of the police to put him before the Court for prosecution.
Her Honour Mrs Susanna Edufful the trial judge after hearing the explosive allegations has since ordered the Crime Officer of the La Police station to appear in Court and respond to the allegations against his men.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Kofi Asare had pleaded not guilty to the charge before the Court.
He has since been admitted to bail in the sum of GHc50,000 with two sureties with documentation worth the amount.
However, the case has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.
Some Ghanaians have reacted to the story saying, “ This guy has copied from the book of Akabenezer.😂😂He must be made to mention the names of his friends that he was caught with and allowed to go because they were able to pay for their freedom.
I’ve seen this movie before 🤣😂😂🤣”.
“The court and the judges who sit in cases like this know very well what the police does to their victims who failed to pay them”, another stated.
One X user stated, “No wonder we can’t tackle galamsey. The people who are supposed to fight corruption themselves are corrupt”.
