President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia called him while he was still asleep to concede defeat in the 2024 elections.
According to John Mahama, he never thought he would win so early but had expected to win in a few days.
Speaking at Mahama worships with the clergy in the Ashanti region, President John Dramani Mahama narrated how former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia called him very early the next morning after the elections, at a time when he was still asleep, to concede defeat and congratulate him.
John Dramani Mahama stated, “When we voted that evening, at 9 am in the morning everything was done, who would have thought in the morning, I thought it would have taken like three days and we would be waiting for the Electoral Commission?
In the morning I was asleep, and they called me, they told me my brother wanted to talk to me, and said which of my brothers, they said your brother Vice President Bawumia, I told them to give me one minute, I went to the bathroom and came back to take my phone”, he added.
He continued, “I saw my brother was the one on the phone, he said my senior brother, I am calling you to tell you that, the battle was good, but with how things are going you have won, so I was calling to give you the best wishes, as I have spoken to you I am going to talk to the media, and I will inform them that you won the elections”.
It will be recalled, that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat some days before the EC chair Jean Mensa officially declared the 2024 election results, with many Ghanaians praising him for his statesmanship, some NPP members were not too pleased with his early concession.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, some months ago revealed he rejected advice from his team not to concede defeat early in the 2024 elections.
According to Dr Bawumia, some of the people on his team were saying you can’t go out to concede and stated they didn’t know if all the data was right.
