Manasseh Azure Awuni an award-winning investigative journalist has revealed CEO of Zoomlion and Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Joseph Siaw Agyepong is a double agent.
According to Manasseh Azure, for years Joseph Siaw Agyepong has been playing both the National Democratic Congress(NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The investigative journalist revealed in 2008 that the NDC campaigned with the “Better Ghana Agenda” slogan and won the election after the company was fingered in a corruption scandal he uncovered from the Registrar General’s Department that the Better Ghana Management Services Limited belonged the Jospong Group.
He noted that NPP under Kufuor had propped up Jospong/Zoomlion with shady and unconscionable contracts, the Jospong later found a way into the hearts of the NDC when they won the 2008 elections.
Manasseh Azure narrated, “In 2008, the NDC campaigned with the “Better Ghana Agenda” slogan and won the election. When I found a company involved in the youth employment corruption scandal I investigated, I assumed it belonged to an NDC big shot.
My search at the Registrar General’s Department revealed that the company, Better Ghana Management Services Limited, belonged to the Jospong Group, headed by Joseph Siaw Agyepong.
The NPP under Kufuor had propped up Jospong/Zoomlion with shady and unconscionable contracts, and when the NDC won the 2008 election, Jospong worked its way into the hearts of the NDC administration”.
He further revealed that in 2016 President Mahama revealed as long as he remain president he would support the business of Jospong, after John Mahama lost the elections Joseph Siaw Agyapong attended the NPP’s victory thanksgiving service.
Manasseh wrote, “ In 2016, President Mahama said at the climax of Zoomlion’s 10th anniversary that the Jospong CEO, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, was often the first person to come to him after he had delivered the State of the Nation’s Address. The CEO, President Mahama said, would list initiatives he (the president) mentioned in the SONA and tell him how he (Joseph Siaw Agyepong) intended to implement them.
At the programme, John Mahama said, “As long as I remain president, I will do everything to support your business.”
Mahama lost the 2016 presidential election a week after that, and the CEO of Jospong, Joseph Siaw Agyapong, attended the NPP’s victory thanksgiving service”.
He reiterated, “Under the “incorruptible” Akufo-Addo, Jospong and Zoomlion profited from shady deals, such as the COVID-19 and youth employment contracts”.
The investigative Journalist later added that Joseph Siaw Agyapong has once again favour in the heart of the NDC after he picture of him wearing a shirt with the inscription “24HR Sanitation Services with a Zoomlion logo and the Coat of Arms.
Manasseh later sarcastically wished John Mahama and Jospong luck saying, “The 24-hour economy has just begun. Good luck to President Mahama and Jospong”.
Meanwhile, Manasseh Awuni has over the years trailed Jospong with all kinds of allegations and stories and pushes for governments to bring the Jospong conglomerate down which has fallen on deaf ears.
According to him, Zoomlion a company owned by Jospong has been implicated in many corrupt deals in Ghana.
He also revealed that the current arrangement between Zoomlion and YEA reveals that Zoomlion receives GHS 850 but the workers take home GHS 250 a month.
He questioned how Jospong sleeps soundly at night and prays in his church when he treats his fellow human beings like slaves.
Azure noted that YEA pays its beneficiaries at least GHS 500 a month, but they approved this shady deal with Zoomlion, in which the cleaners are paid half of what the other YEA beneficiaries receive.
