Minister of Energy, John Jinapor has wished the former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta the best of luck after he was declared a fugitive.
John Jinapor noted that on this auspicious day on this day of reckoning on this day of accountability, the only thing he can say is “ We wish the man in white the best of luck”.
According to John Jinapor, he had a harrowing experience when a team of AK-47-wielding National Security operatives stormed his residence after he left office.
Speaking on the floor of parliament he narrated, “On that fateful day, when my house was raided by AK-47-wielding National Security operatives, when they banged on my door, creating fear and panic, sending my six-year-old child into a state of hysteria into a state of fear. We had members here who never commented on it.
I commend Prof. Mike Oquaye for standing up on that day and ruling that what they [National Security operatives] were doing was wrong. Mr Speaker, they took my phone and laptops to the United Kingdom to investigate me. Today, a very simple matter, and you are scared of it?”, he added.
He further added, “The OSP has declared Mr Ken Ofori Atta as a fugitive, we should not be afraid of accountability, as public officials, When they took my laptops, it got to a point where they couldn’t open my iPhones. I told them I was willing to come and do it with my fingerprint. It was then and there that they told me that the phones had been taken to the United Kingdom.”
I had to give them the password and, eventually, the very Ameri that I was accused of a minister was dismissed, on this auspicious day on this day of reckoning on this day of accountability the only thing I can say, is that we wish the man in white the best of luck”, John Jinapor stated.
The OSP Kissi Agyabeng declared Ken Ofori Atta a fugitive for failing to appear for interrogation into corruption-related investigations.
Ken Ofori Atta has been accused of causing financial loss to the state in several dealings including the construction of the famous National Cathedral and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA’s) – Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
