AmaZulu FC coach, Arthur Zwane has defended Richard Ofori despite losing crucial points against Kaizer Chiefs because of the Ghanaian goalkeeper’s error.
According to him, Richard Ofori needs psychological support after such a costly mistake.
Richard Ofori has come under intense criticisms from the South African media after he misdirected a soft cross into his own net leading to Kaizer Chief’s last minute equalizer.
Ofori misjudged the flight of a cross, inadvertently directing the ball into his own net.
Despite the criticisms, Arthur Zwane defended his goalkeeper who made two crucial saves in the game but added that Richard Ofori needs psychological help in order to bounce back from the error.
“Unfortunately, football is a game of mistakes. But as I said earlier, he kept us in the game in the first half. Sometimes, when the pressure mounts, you are bound to crack.”
“He made two crucial mistakes—both of which we know he’d normally save and make look easy. Now, it is our job as coaches to support him mentally because we need him. He’s been doing fantastically well for the team,” Zwane said.
