Dr Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore has revealed the NPP members of parliament embarked on the “Ken Must Go” campaign because former President Akufo-Addo was not listening to them.
In 2022, the former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta came under heavy criticism from some NPP lawmakers, demanding his ousting as minister.
Over 90 of the NPP MPs believed Ken Ofori-Atta had not steered the economy of Ghana in the right direction and that the hardships being experienced by Ghanaians were due to his ineffectiveness.
Speaking on Oyerapa TV, Dr Ayew Afriyie detailed, “If you blame me for Ken Must Go, why should we do Ken Must Go, we embark on Ken Must Go because the executive was not listening”.
“The president was not listening, if the president was listening to the people and you know the mood of Ghanaians, even your own party core people were telling you that when we talk you are not listening”, he stated.
The member of parliament asserted that the tension in the country was too much and the NPP MPs felt they needed to do something.
He added, “Kan Dapaah issue came you didn’t sack him, right now we are saying sack Ken for our hearts to be okay, who didn’t hear this, didn’t your hear this, it is not even from the public”.
“I am talking about the NPP or people who had sympathy for the NPP, people thought it was an indicator of make or break. That thing that we did, we did it at a time the tension was so much in the country”, he boldly disclosed.
