The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the past described corruption of the use of the powers of the state vested into a leader to serve himself and his family.
This old footage of his explanation surfaced days after his son, Dr. Kwaku Asiedu Nketia, was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund.
“Corruption is when you use the powers vested in you by the state as the leader of a nation to serve yourself and your family. That is the definition of corruption globally. So if you receive power to make appointments to lead Ghana and you appoint your siblings, wives and in laws, we call it nepotism. It is one of the highest forms of corruption,” he said.
According to him, it is wrong to use the power of appointment as a leader or president to appoint people into office to serve the nation to rather appoint people who will serve your personal and family interest.
Asiedu Nketia indicated that the excuse of the government at the time that these family and friends appointed into office are qualified for the job is not the issue at hand.
“So, when they come out and say the persons are qualified to filled those positions, those are not the issues at all. It is nepotism at play,” he added.
Dr. Kwaku Asiedu Nketia, the son of Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been appointed the acting Deputy CEO of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).
