Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak Minister for Interior has reiterated that his job as Interior Minister is to recommend to President John Mahama whether or not to maintain IGP Dampare.
The interior minister noted that the question about the removal of the Inspector General of Police keeps coming again despite his answers.
According to Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the decision to remove or maintain IGP Dampare rests with President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking to the media after he was sworn in as the minister of interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak stated, “This thing keeps coming up again and I keep saying as the Interior Minister mine is to make a recommendation to the president, the worst I can make is say remove him, the best I can make is to say maintain him.
That decision whether to remove or maintain him, rests with the president so when people ask me, you didn’t give me the power to do that but you are asking me something that I don’t have power over, now that I have been sworn in my is to review all the things that are happening not only in the police but also fire, prisons and all of them”, he stated.
Munataka Mubarak further added, “Those that his excellency believes can help him achieve his vision for that agency obviously will be there, you also know that there are constitutional limitations there are some people you cannot do anything about them, and there are some you can do something about, so obviously when we get to the bridge we will surely cross it”.
Meanwhile, retired ACP Dr Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo, a Senior Officer of the Ghana Police Service, has labelled George Akuffo Dampare as the “worst” Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana’s history.
The host of the Gumbe Show on TV XYZ, Oheneba Boamah Bennie has also claimed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare is secretly lobbying to be retained as IGP in the John Dramani Mahama administration.
IGP Damapre was appointed as the Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 21 July 2021 effective 1 August 2021.
