Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi has demanded swift psychological intervention for Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.
According to him, Otto Addo’s cry for help was publicly displayed during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers game between Ghana and Niger.
Ghana’s hopes of ending their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a high note were dashed as they lost 2-1 to Niger in their final Group F game.
Niger took the lead in the 22nd minute through Ousseini Badamassi’s header from a corner kick. But Ghana equalized in the 67th minute courtesy of teenager Jerry Afriyie’s strike from Ernest Nuamah’s cross.
Following the equalizer, Otto Addo run unto the pitch and held unto the youngster in jubilation.
Nyantakyi described that incident as Otto Addo’s call for help.
“The day we played with Niger I watched the game on TV. When we equalized, the coach was jubilating and was holding unto the player. I realized there was a psychological problem there. I realized some pressure had left him. So it means the goal had taken away the pressure. He didn’t even realize he had jumped onto the field,” he said.
”I realized there was a phycological problem there. I realized some pressure had left him. A weight had been lifted from him so, it means the goal had taken away the pressure. He didn’t even realize he had jumped on the field,” Kwesi Nyantakyi added.
The former GFA capo reiterated that the problem which made Otto jump unto the field was a psychological problem and called for the assigning of psychologists not only to players, but the management team, and coaches as well.
He appealed to the current managers of the nation’s football to realign and put in place strong structures to make Ghana football strong again.
