A group of political party thugs, allegedly linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stormed the official residence of Nana Asante Bediatuo, President Akufo-Addo’s secretary, at Roman Ridge on January 2, 2024.
The violent intrusion comes after the thugs reportedly failed to receive payment for security services provided before, during, and after the 2024 elections.
According to news reports, the attack took place after the thugs were turned away twice, on December 27 and 30, when they attempted to meet Nana Asante Bediatuo.
At the time, they were informed that he was unavailable and out of the country.
Upon learning of his absence, the group of around 20 men forcibly entered the residence, overpowering the security guards who tried to stop them.
Sources suggest the attackers were seeking compensation for their services during the election period, though there are also speculations that the incident may be linked to ongoing political tensions.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers were adamant about gaining entry, despite being told that Nana Asante Bediatuo was not present.
Authorities were swiftly called to the scene, and police arrived to restore order and secure the area.
Investigations are already underway to identify the individuals responsible for the break-in and to determine the full scope of the motive behind the attack.
