Ghanaians have been split into different school of thoughts following the appointment of Dr. Kwaku Asiedu Nketia, son of the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia as Deputy CEO of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).
A press statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, January 17 confirmed his appointment.
His appointment has received both criticism and support from the Ghanaian public.
The NDC criticized the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration of engaging in the politics of family and friends as the former president appointed key family members and close associates into various public offices.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia himself did not spare the government at the time as he took them on at any given opportunity for the nepotism and corruption.
While some Ghanaians have taken to social media to vent over the repetition of the actions of the NPP, some have sought to justify and equalize the actions of the NDC.
One X user with the name @Inkredible_B said, “The erstwhile NPP govt witnessed the most nepotistic appointment ever recorded in Ghana, Akosua Manu the Ponzi scheme Queen just by the virtue of her marriage to Peter Mac Manu son she was appointed as the deputy CEO of NYE & Asante Bediatu ensure his entire family got govt jobs!”
@richmart84 added, “This is the low point in his appointments.”
@madison_ben5 “President Mahama is appointing young people in the NDC to lead. All these people worked hard for the party and we must congratulate him that so far, he has not appointed a single family member or his children into any position. What a great leader. God bless JM.”
@_NiiOkai “We complained that Osafo Marfo’s kid was heading a state owned enterprise yet we’re back here again. Nepotism and Corruption would never if we don’t stop “this winner takes all” and “job for the boys” attitude.”
@godsbonafide “If we’re all being objective, Asiedu Nketiah’s son’s appointment is nepotism and it’s worse than Osafo Marfo’s. In this case a new position was created at MIIF to accommodate him, adding to the wage bill that we complained Addo D padded I won’t even talk about his experience”
