The official bungalows of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council have been left to deteriorate for the past eight years, with no renovations or maintenance under the New Patriotic Party administration.
Among the abandoned buildings are the Regional Minister’s residence and the Presidential Lodge, both left unoccupied and falling into disrepair.
Once a beautiful property with well-maintained grounds, the area is now overtaken by dried-up grass and withered flowers.
The Presidential Lodge, commissioned in 2004 under President Kufuor, is particularly neglected, with broken ceilings and peeling paint.
NDC Regional Chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrew expressed concern, stating, “When we were in power, the place was kept clean and green.
The place looked like the seat of government, but now the place looks abandoned.”
The Regional Minister’s office, situated within the same premises, has been unused for eight years, and two guest houses designated for government officials have been burgled.
Broken windows, removed air conditioners, and left-behind fittings paint a picture of neglect.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Regional Secretary of the NDC, has called for an investigation into the matter, questioning whether the Regional Minister received alternate accommodation while the facilities remained in disrepair.
“We will launch an investigation into this issue,” he said.
“It will interest us to know how the Regional Minister got a residency while this one was rotting away.”
