Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his 8-year tenure as the president of Ghana appointed some four senior journalists as Board members of some State institutions.
The John Mahama administration has today, January 13, 2025, announced the dissolution of Board Membership of Statutory Boards, Corporations, Commissions, and Councils Following the Presidential Transition under the outgone Akufo-Addo government.
In accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), all members of statutory boards corporations, commissions, and councils appointed by the former President or a former Minister of State ceased to hold office on 7th January 2025, following the assumption of office of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
The four senior journalists appointed by Akufo-Addo’s administration to Board positions include:
- Kwame Sefa Kayi, the host of Kokrokro morning show on Peace FM was appointed a board member of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
- Paul Adom-Otchere the host of Good Morning Ghana, was appointed the board chair of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). He previously served as a board member of the National Communications Authority.
- Elizabeth Ohene a renowned Reporter, Staff Writer, Columnist, Lead Writer and Acting Editor of the Daily Graphic and Mirror was also appointed as the new Board Chair of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). The one-time Minister of State under the Kufour regime will replace Dr. Kwame Addo Kufour who served as Board Chair from 2017 to 2020.
- Kwaku Sakyi-Addo an ace broadcaster and communication specialist, was appointed the Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority (NCA) in 2017 and was later appointed as a board chairman of the Minerals Development Fund in 2021.
With President John Mahama assuming office these four individuals seize to be Board members.
Meanwhile, the presidency communication added that commissions that are independent constructional creations are excluded.
The management of these bodies in the statement has been directed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before taking any major decisions.
