A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto Committee, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has said the NPP was too late in addressing anger in the Ashanti Region.
According to Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, the NPP supporters in the Ashanti Region already made up their minds when the party started to address the anger of Asanteman.
Speaking on Accra-based radio station Peace FM, he detailed, “It means voter turnout, was around 64%, I was looking forward to about 80 percent of voter turnout, and hopefully, it translates to valid votes cast for the NPP that was my personal assumption and also the party itself, we were banging about 85% of Ashanti votes”.
“Voter turnout was at an all-time low in the Ashanti region, which is bad, if someone tells you we did not know that there was anger within people in the Ashanti Region tell them I said they are lying. We did a lot of things, we met with groups, where we needed to beg, we did, but I will say that we did that too late in the day. People have already decided”, he noted.
Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu further added, “When you engage the business community, the main problem is the struggle they go through, the traders in Kumasi, after they import their goods at Tema Harbor, the struggle they go through before paying for their goods”.
“Businesses in Asanteman complained and complained that you will be there at the Kumasi magazine and GRA staff from Accra will come with large padlocks, and they will not allow you to talk, meanwhile, GRA staff in Kumasi will not know about this. It was too late in the day to address most of the issue, I am just talking about the Business community”, he emphasized.
He revealed that on voting day the reality dawned on him, that people of the Ashanti region were not coming out to vote.
