Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, the Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom has boldly stated that the New Patriotic presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat too fast in the 2024 presidential elections.
According to the member of parliament, the post-electoral violence, including the re-collation of some constituency results is attributed to Dr. Bawumia’s early concession.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat some days before the EC chair Jean Mensa officially declared the 2024 election results, with many Ghanaians praising him for his statesmanship, some NPP members were not too pleased with his early concession.
The member of parliament asserted that although the presidential elections showed an obvious defeat for the NPP they should have delayed in accepting defeat for all MP’s results to be declared.
Speaking on GHOne TV, Dr. Adomako Kissi, boldly detailed, “I think that from a political strategic standpoint, the flagbearer’s loss became very clear very early but for governance and for the party as a whole, we should have delayed in accepting defeat so that many or all the MPs should have been done.”
“It contributed to some extent to the happenings. Let me cite for instance, Patrick Boamah’s case which is 21,000 to 19,000. I think that if there was a bit of wait before the declaration or the concession speech, we wouldn’t have had the issues that Okaikwei Central had, they would have gone through the collation appropriately,” he stated.
Meanwhile the Electoral Commission through an Accra High Court order has re-collated the Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Techiman South, which were previously declared in favor of the NDC have been re-declared for the NPP.
Two constituencies left outstanding are the Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya.
