The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) is set to begin a nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18, in protest over the government’s failure to address longstanding concerns.

According to them, their decision to strike, stems from government’s delays in concluding, signing, and implementing revised conditions of service for workers under the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as Public Technical and Traditional Universities.

Even though negotiations on the issue have been ongoing, the union says the lack of progress on these matters is worrisome and has reached a point where industrial action is seen as the only way to push for change. They bemoan a deplorable welfare of the members and effective running of the institutions if the conditions are not met by the labor commission.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that, the National Labor Commission has intercepted and arranged a meeting with leaders of the union on Wednesday, November 20. The aim is to ensure a fair mediation in resolving the grievances of the union
