Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in the NPP government and Ghanaian politics has been identified to have influenced the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) to allocate GH¢300 million (approximately US$30 million) to Electrochem Ghana Limited, a company owned by Daniel McKorley (McDan), for the Ada-Songor Salt project.

On November 9, 2024, Gabby Otchere-Darko publicly responded to McDan’s criticisms of government policies for neglecting the private sector. Gabby defended the administration’s support for private enterprises.

Gabby’s statement on X reads, “I am perplexed! This is from an entrepreneur who enjoyed the full support of govt to own the largest salt concession in Africa, with the capacity to produce some $2bn of salt annually; a project that for 45yrs various govts failed to commercialise. Aghast!”.
