Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has dismissed circulating rumors that the government has increased the Teacher Trainees’ Allowance from GHS 400 to GHS 800.

The Association clarified in a statement issued on November 17, 2024, that it has not received any formal communication about such an increment, nor has the Ministry of Education made any official announcement regarding the issue.

The rumors appear to have stemmed from a misinterpretation of a resolution passed during TTAG’s 28th Annual General Assembly at Tamale College of Education.

However, the TTAG emphasized that the increase is not forthcoming at this time.

While TTAG had submitted a formal proposal on July 4, 2024, requesting an allowance increase, the Ministry of Education has not yet acted on the proposal.

Furthermore, the government still owes Teacher Trainees in all 46 Public Colleges of Education a total of four months’ worth of allowance arrears for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, which ended on October 11, 2024.

The Association is urging the Government, through the Ministry of Education, to clear these arrears and to consider the proposed increase, recognizing the financial challenges faced by trainees as they pursue their education.
