Ministry of Education finally breaks its silence on the supply of expired bags of rice to SHS

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Education Kwasi Kwarteng has reacted to the member of parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s latest exposé on the supply of expired rice to some Senior High Schools in the country.

According to the spokesperson, they express appreciation to Hon. Ablakwa for bringing this matter to our attention, as such feedback is valuable in our ongoing efforts to ensure quality education.

Kwasi Kwarteng revealed the ministry takes the allegations seriously and, as a matter of urgency, has commenced a full investigation.

In his write-up shared on X, Kwasi Kwarteng stated, “The Ministry has also engaged the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), the entities responsible for the supply and distribution of food to senior high schools. Together, we have launched a thorough investigation into the issues raised by Hon. Ablakwa”.

He went on to assure students, parents, guardians, and the public of our commitment to protect the health and safety of every student under our care.
