Drinking pubs and bars to stay closed on election day- NCCE says

The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) ha says all drinking bars and joints across the country will on Saturday December 7, remain closed for the day till after 5 p.m

According to the NCCE the operations of the drinking bar during the election’s active hours could jeopardize the peaceful atmosphere and process of the voting. He added that, the bars can open to business from 6p.m when the voting processes has come to an end ready for counting.

“Allowing the drinking and beer bars to operate on the Election Day can disturb the electoral process”, the NCCE Director said.

He also cautioned the electorates that double voting remained a serious electoral offence and asked them to avoid the temptation of voting twice at different polling stations, saying culprits would be prosecuted.

He emphasized the need of peace and cohesion in the organization of the elections by the Electoral Commission and the entire nation, hence the directive to close the drinking bars. An electorate queuing to vote under alcohol influence can trigger chaos and confusion which will affect the operations of Electoral Commission.
