The now minority leader of parliament Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin has warned the Multimedia group JOY NEWS not to do the bidding of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, yesterday 17 October 2024 officially declared four parliamentary seats vacant. They include Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).
This follows a formal petition submitted by Haruna Iddrisu, an NDC MP, to the Speaker, this led to the NPP majority now being declared the minority in parliament.
According to Afenyo Markin, JOY NEWS was quick to report that there is now a majority in parliament and a new minority and noted JOY NEWS is becoming notorious for misinforming and doing mischief on its platform
Speaking at a press conference, Afenyo Markin said, “JOY FM you people are known for a lot of mischief, and I will encourage you no, I will say it. JOYNEWS your role as a media house is to help our democracy, JOY is becoming notorious, JOY FM is becoming notorious for misinforming and doing mischief”.
“JOY FM I am saying it today you can single me out and start your mischief to destroy my brand I don’t care. The time has come for the country to tell JOY FM that do it right and do it perfectly, don’t do the bidding of the NDC, you can black us out enough is enough”, Afenyo Markins added.
While descending on JOY NEWS Afenyo Markin however went on to acknowledge some media houses that he claims are doing the right things, “Citi FM does it well, OKAY FM does it well, Peace FM does it well, GHOne, there are other media houses that express their opinions, but they do the right thing you are quick always to mislead people and it is not right”.
