Afenyo Markin, now the minority leader of parliament, has claimed Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is doing the bidding of the National Democratic Congress in his decision to declare four seats vacant.
According to him the Speaker has no right to interpret the constitution and avoided the writ.
He said, “The speaker has no right to interpret the constitution, and it is so clear that what he did was to give an advantage to the NDC and do the bidding of the NDC we are not going further to litigate, we have a process in court we will follow it up if the court makes a pronouncement we will respect”.
Afenyo Markin further revealed that the NPP now a minority is going to boycott parliament until the Supreme Court addresses the matter, “It is clear that Mr. Speaker avoided service of the writ to do the bidding of the NDC, it is so clear, but we believe in the law we as the Majority caucus immediately are boycotting parliament until this matter is determined by the Supreme Court”.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, yesterday 17 October 2024 officially declared four parliamentary seats vacant. They include Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).
This follows a formal petition submitted by Haruna Iddrisu, an NDC MP, to the Speaker.
