According to a report from CNN, a fuel tanker which exploded has claimed the lives of at least 94 people in Nothern Nigeria.
The tragic incident, is said to have occurred on late Tuesday in local time in Majiya, a village in Jigawa state.
Authorities in engagements with reporters revealed that the already crashed tanker exploded near locals who had gathered to retrieve fuel which leaked out of the tanker.
The driver lost control and the tanker somersaulted and spilled fuel into a drainage ditch,” Jigawa police spokesperson Shiisu Lawan Adam said. “As a result, residents rushed to scoop the fuel when the explosion happened.”
The report went on to indicate that the death toll may rise, as 50 people are currently in critical condition, battling severe injuries.
