President Akufo-Addo has with immediate effect dismissed the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dodzie Numekevor, over CAF’s withdrawal of Baba Yara Sports Stadium license from hosting international matches. The job of the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, is also said to be on the line if Ghana does not play any of the remaining AFCON. qualifiers in any of the stadia in the country. Dr Dodzie Numekevor who was appointed as the interim director general of the National Sports Authority on 26 February 2024, following the departure of Professor Peter Twumasi, closed down Baba Yara, Accra, and Cape Coast stadia for maintenance over the bad nature of the facilities.
The termination letter dated yesterday Tuesday 17 September 2024 and signed by Nana Badiatuo Asante, Secretary to the President, reads; “I am directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that your appointment as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority has been terminated with immediate effect.”
“You are directed to hand over your office to the chairman of the Governing Board of the Authority, who is copied on this letter. Please ensure that you hand over and cease to act as the director-general of the Authority no later than the close of business on 17th September 2024.
The president is also said to have ordered the sacking of individuals responsible for renting out the Baba Yara Stadium for a church programme for six days prior to the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
