Presidency mounts pressure on Ghana Gas to sign $800m shady “deal”

John Jinapor a ranking member on the Energy Committee of Parliament has revealed that the Akufo-Addo Bawumia led government is mounting pressure on the Ghana Gas Company to sign a $800m shady “deal.

The ranking member alleged the $800m shady “deal is with the Phoenix Park Gas Processors Consortium, which is under dubious situation, without approval from parliament.

The minority MP stated that dumsor has returned due to this shady contract signed by government of Ghana.

“Because of such dubious contracts, as we speak, there is load shedding ongoing. GRIDCo has been cautioned not to inform customers. On [September 24], there was a deficit of more than 500 megawatts. On [September 25], they are going to shed a load and customers in Ghana will be affected”, John Jinapor stated.

The ranking member also unveiled that Tullow Ghana has not been paid even $1 for the past nine months for gas supply to Ghana gas. He said, “Tullow is threatening to curtail supply of gas”.
