“Broke” Akufo-Addo govt blows GHS2.8bn on DRIP equipment

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the member of parliament for North Tongu has exposed the Akufo-Addo led government of blowing GHS2.8billion taxpayers’ money on DRIP equipment in a new document.

The Member of parliament notorious for his persistent expose on the misuse of state funds revealed in an X post stating, “extremely troubling details are emerging from an ongoing parliamentary scrutiny into government’s District Road Improvement Project (DRIP)”.

Hon. Ablakwa indicated that through an RTI request by him and Hon. Mahama Ayariga together with further analysis from multiple sources they found incontrovertible findings.

“The cost of the DRIP equipment to the Ghanaian taxpayers is an unbelievable colossal amount of US$178,704,739.50 this translates to a staggering GHS2.8 billion”. Ablakwa statement stated on X.

The MP further uncovered from the District Assemblies Common Fund that the US$178.7 million (GHS2.8 billion) figure will rise further when training, recruitments, PPEs and other procurements are finalized.

Additional, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also unearth the contract was not competitively awarded his words read, “it was yet another single-sourced sweetheart deal as confirmed by the DACF in their formal response”.

“In opposition, Akufo-Addo and Bawumia loudly and consistently pledged to end the era of single-sourced contracts, however, their tenure has witnessed the most blatant and reckless abuse of single sourcing”, his statement reiterated.

The Vice President Dr. Bawumia on campaign platforms has since said the DRIP project was his idea after he chaired the Critical Roads Committee, which did not seek any parliamentary approval to implement.

President Akufo-Addo launched the DRIP initiative on 31 july,2024 describing it as a significant step towards transforming Ghana’s road infrastructure.
