A video of an NDC communication officer has emerged lying to some groups of cocoa farmers about the emission tax.
In the viral video posted by Koku Anyidoho, the NDC communicator made some wild claims against the emission tax that was proposed by the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government but rejected by many Ghanaians.
He claimed, “After weeding your farm and you want to burn it unless you go and call the government, they will come and check the size of the farmland and the amount of smoke that will be caused then you will pay a tax”.
“Oh yes before you burn it, if you burn it without them, they will come and arrest you, and they will treat you as if you have stolen something, so the emission tax, they are coming to take it from farmers”, he boldly reiterated.
He urged all farmers to raise so they vote against Dr Bawumia and his Akufo-Addo government to not to pay the tax when they burn their weeds.
The farmers he spoke to also noted they spoke in English, so they didn’t understand the emission Tax.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced the commencement of the implementation of the Emissions Levy Act, on February 1, 2024, the Act will impose a levy on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions on internal combustion engine vehicles.
They emphasized that it is in line with the government’s responsibility to address greenhouse gas emissions.
