Media personality Bridget Otoo recently criticized Gideon Boako, an aide to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over comments related to the ongoing protests against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Dr. Boako, in a social media post, suggested that it was hypocritical for people to protest the pollution of rivers outside of Accra while ignoring the pollution of rivers within the city. He argued that fairness required equal attention to all polluted rivers, stating, “Hypocrisy is when we gloss over the polluted Odaw River and the Lagoon in Accra but demonstrate over polluted Pra or Tano River outside Accra. #EqualAttention.”

Bridget Otoo, well-known for her critical views of the government, expressed shock at Dr. Boako’s comment. She suggested that his statement called his mental fitness into question, describing the post as irresponsible and unwarranted. “Did he really sit down, write this, understand it, and then hit send?” she wrote, adding that some public figures may need mental health evaluations.

Following significant backlash from Bridget and many other netizens, Dr. Boako has since deleted his controversial post.

The issue of illegal mining remains a contentious topic in Ghana, with citizens demanding stronger action to protect the country’s water bodies. Several prominent voices, including religious and political leaders, have called on the government to address the destruction caused by galamsey. Organized Labour has also threatened to strike on October 10, 2024, if the government fails to heed their demands for effective intervention.

Herh!!! Tell me this is fake… like he sat down, wrote this, comprehended and pressed sent?
