Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has blasted former Supreme Court Judge, Justice William Atuguba.
According to Lawyer Maurice Ampaw Justice William Atuguba is a disgrace to the bench for speaking in public instead of rallying his colleagues.
Speaking on TV3 Justice William Atuguba said, “The High Court shall have jurisdiction to hear and determine any question whether (a) a person has been validly elected as a member of Parliament or the seat of a member has become vacant”.
“As far as I am concerned, this issue of vacating seats is specifically dealt with in Article 99… The question here involves the vacancy of the seats of the four MPs, so it is a matter for the High Court, not the Supreme Court. To that extent, invoking the Supreme Court over this matter is wrong,” Justice Atuguba added.
Maurice Ampaw, reacting to Justice Atuguba’s interview on TV3, described it as impalpable.
Speaking on Wontumi TV on his Show Mmra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem, Maurice Ampaw said, “You are a serious disgrace to the bench. When you are a judge, you don’t speak in public, instead rally behind your colleagues”.
According to Maurice Ampaw, Justice Atuguba’s comment is gross misconduct, and called on the Ghana Bar Association to write and condemn such comments.
