Ghanaian media personality and broadcast journalist, Paul Adom-Otchere, has critiqued the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) proposed 24-hour economy policy, asserting that it fails to address the well-being of Ghanaians.
Speaking on his prime current affairs show, Good Evening Ghana, Adom-Otchere explained that a viable policy must address a financial challenge or improve the economic conditions of a specific sector.
He cited the National Health Insurance Scheme and the Free SHS program as examples of effective social interventions that directly benefit the public through the appropriate use of taxes. “A social intervention must serve the people,” he remarked. “For instance, Free SHS covers school fees and capitation grants—expenses that would otherwise burden citizens.”
Adom-Otchere expressed concern that the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy does not seem to cater to the needs of Ghanaians. “If you tell taxpayers their money will support a 24-hour nightlife, what tangible benefit does that provide?” he questioned.
He also addressed NDC members who argue that the policy is too advanced for “mediocre minds” to comprehend, stating, “We are not voting for those living abroad; we are voting for Ghanaians. Suggesting that we don’t understand a 24-hour economy because we haven’t traveled is irrelevant.”
Paul Adom-Otchere emphasized that what Ghanaians need are leaders who can improve their quality of life and address the country’s pressing challenges. “We understand the problems in Ghana, and we are seeking politicians who can offer real solutions,”
