Daughter of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and former chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah, has confirmed the rumours of the proposal from the leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako also known as Cheddar.
She disclosed that she was approached by Nana Kwame Bediako to be his running mate in the upcoming presidential election. However, Samia established that she declined the offer.
In a recent interview, Samia addressed her potential partnership with Nana Bediako as she stated, “Yes, Cheddar did approach me. But I told him that I’ve invested too much in Jomoro. And I believe the Nkrumahist tradition must be represented in Parliament, in our decision making.”
She reiterated that her decision to turn down the opportunity was deeply rooted in her commitment to her constituency, Jomoro where she has been working to uphold the legacy of her father.
Some deem this move from Nana Kwame Bediako as an obsession and a strategic attempt to align with the Nkrumahist ideology. Meanwhile, various political parties including two rivals NPP and NDC continue to lead their campaigns ahead of December polls having projected their manifestoes.
Nana Bediako on the other hand also present a 12-pillar economic policy as his manifesto while the search for his running candidate continues.
