National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, has questioned the alarming silence of the National House Chiefs amid the escalating tensions leading to the 2024 general election.
Speaking on behalf of former President John Mahama at the Yagbon Damba festival in Damongo, Nketiah stressed that peace cannot exist in a vacuum, and the chiefs’ inaction is dangerously ignoring the elements that threaten national stability.
He urgently called on the eminent chiefs of the North Yaana, Nayiri, and Yagbonwura to engage with both Dr. Bawumia and former President Mahama to advocate for peace before, during, and after the elections.
Nketiah emphasized that any fallout will disproportionately affect northerners, urging the chieftaincy institution to demand a forensic audit of the voters register to address ongoing concerns.
In a parallel address, Yagbonwura Biikunuto Jewu Soale I reminded Ghanaians that former President Mahama and Dr. Bawumia are not just political rivals but brothers with a shared history.
He called for a spirit of constructive engagement rather than conflict, urging the youth to protect the nation’s peace as they represent Ghana’s future.
