Samuel Yeboah, the founder of Tech in Twi has questioned why there is a high level of greed at the ports in Ghana despite the numerous amounts of taxes one pays after importing a car into the country.
Samuel Yeboah who has been making waves with his campaign against the high cost of data in the country taking to his X page on 24, September 2024, lamented in his post which read as, “Imagine a car that someone buys with their money. When the car arrives in the country, the owner will pay for registration, roadworthy certificate and insurance every year so that the government still has the ultimate share of the money”.
He argued further the owner of the car will still have to buy fuel all the time which will be taxed, “so why all the greediness at the port?” he added.
The outrageous import duties and Value Added Tax (VAT) placed on cars import are placing economic burden on Ghanaian citizens with many complaining bitterly.
