Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang has stated what former president Kufuor did Alan, he hasn’t done for anyone in the NPP.
The former Minister for Foreign Affairs was reacting to Alan Kyeremanten expressing his strong disapproval of former president John Agyekum Kufuor endorsing NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 elections.
Speaking on PM Extra on Joy News on 25 November 2024, Owusu-Agyemang stated, “What President Kufuor has done for Alan Kyeremanten, I don’t think he has done for anybody in this party, and I don’t think Kyeremanten who says 70% of what President Kufuor had to do came from him”.
“Where was he, I can tell you as a foreign minister, he was my ambassador to Washington and one of the biggest things we did was the HIPC if you remember HIPC, Highly Indebted Poor Countries, and when we were taking that decision the people there was President Kufuor, J.H Mensah, Osafo Marfo and myself, Bromus Amos and the British Ambassador”, he added.
Owusu-Agyemang further stated, “So, if at that time President Kufuor thought that even Kyeremanten was the man of the moment, now he has moved on after almost 20 years and he believes that this is the time to move forward so it somebody else who should do this you should understand”.
“But to ask, for me it is the height of impunity to ask what Bawumia have done and why you are supporting him because you heard him read decent it was rude”, he emphasized.
