Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) has called on the government to adhere to its timeline in ongoing negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, following the recent suspension of its four-day strike.

The PSWU ended the strike last Friday, October 25, in compliance with a directive from the National Labour Commission.

Members of the union, who are on the single-spine salary structure, were instructed to resume work the following Monday.

The strike had severely impacted essential public services, disrupting operations at institutions like the National Identification Authority (NIA), Ghana Meteorological Agency, and Ghana Statistical Service, leaving many Ghanaians without access to critical services.

Similarly, PSWU members at the Ghana Statistical Service resumed regular activities, providing essential data services to the public. “We are also back,” a staff member affirmed.

At the National Identification Authority (NIA) head office, crowds gathered as applicants returned to process identity documents after delays due to the strike. “It’s a relief to get a card done,” remarked one applicant.

However Deputy General Secretary of the union John Sampa cautioned, that if negotiations do not progress as planned, the union may reevaluate its stance after November 5.
