Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase/Asokore, Nana Ayew Afriye, has stated unequivocally that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not stop mining in water bodies.
In a viral video, the lawmaker said, “We won’t stop galamsey today, we won’t stop galamsey tomorrow.”
Mr. Afriye also distinguished between local miners and foreign operatives, allegedly brought into the country by the NDC.
He stated, “Small-scale mining is different from what the Togolese and Burkinabes that the NDC has imported to mine.”
“They seen that we were winning the seats in the mining areas, so they decided to bring in foreigners to mine on our river bodies.
Has water become a problem? Is it not just for this one month? Someone is behind this, just to make us stop the galamseyers and lose our seats.
But we will not stop them today or tomorrow.”
