Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has said Ghana needs Knowledgeable people in the Supreme Court.
According to Mahama Ayariga the Judges in the Supreme Court must know the laws and be knowledgeable he referenced a case in the US in 1968 where the court refrained itself from the case for being political.
Speaking in an Interview on JOYNEWS’s The Probe on October 20, 2024, he said, “That is why you should have knowledgeable people as judges at the Supreme Court. We should have judges who know their law if they were knowledgeable, they would have known that the US Supreme Court in the case OF Barker and Carr in 1968 said that certain matters are by nature political matters within the domain of the legislature and the executive, those matters the Supreme Court should run away from them, they should not get entangled in those matters”.
The Supreme Court of Ghana has come under massive pressure after they decided to halt Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of four seats vacant in parliament.
