Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has lamented that we are living in an era where the Supreme Court no longer cares about public sentiment and opinion.
According to Professor Gyampo, elsewhere, Judgment and the Judges are mindful of the public policy implication and the implication of whatever they say in bringing about stability and cohesion in the general body politics.
Speaking on Joy FM Super Morning Show, he said, “I was quite surprised to hear how the Chief Justice was pontificating on this matter of representation or the potential for denying people representation while at the same time, she knew that others have been denied representation for almost 4 years”.
“Look maybe we live in an era where the Supreme Court no longer cares about public sentiment and opinion about how it goes about its activities but elsewhere Judgment and the Judges are also mindful of the public policy implication and the implication of whatever they say in bringing about stability and cohesion in the general body politics”, Prof. Gyampo lamented.
Today, the Supreme Court is currently hearing the case of Speaker Bagbin which seeks to overturn an earlier ruling that temporarily stayed his declarations of four parliamentary seats as vacant.
