Executive Director, Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana, Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, has accused the government of Ghana of refusing to engage the citizenry on public policy and discourse.
According to him, Ghana’s democracy has been turned upside down as the government is solely concerned about making its party happy rather than focusing on the citizenry.
“Our democracy has been turned against us. Instead of a gov’t for the people, by the people and of the people, we have ended up it appears with a government of the party, by the party and for the party and its partisans,” he stated.
He urged subsequent governments to do away with this trend of politics and rather focus on engaging the citizenry in the course of public policy and public affairs.
Professor Prempeh quoted some notable philosophers who placed significance on civic engagement.
