Manhyia Palace has rejected the apology of Afia Pokua a journalist with Agoo TV, who recently attacked the Asantehene for his silence regarding ongoing conflicts between the Ashantis and other tribes, including the Bonos.
After hours of pleading, all efforts from a group of elders supporting her proved futile as the Otumfuo’s representative remained firm in their decision to turn her away warning her to never return to the palace.
She made her remarks, during Mona Gucci’s show ‘Bribi Gye Gye Wo’ on Onua TV, where she expressed frustration over what she described as Ashanti superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s inaction.
Her comments have since then sparked widespread anger among the Ashantis, with sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and the Ashanti youth publicly condemning her words.
After many protests and a press conference, organised by the youth to address the situation, Afia Poku appeared before the elders at Manhyia today.
One of the elders made an emotional appeal on her behalf, stating that she had been on her knees since her arrival and had delivered a heartfelt apology hence should be forgiven.
The Otumfuo’s representative however, was persistent, explaining that in such matters, apologies are not always enough.
According to him, some offences require the individual to bear the consequences of their actions, and Pokua’s situation was one such case.
“Who do you think you are to disrespect the Otumfuo? If you think you’ve grown wings, don’t aim them at Kumasi. You claim to be from Kwahu, yet even they separated from the Ashanti Kingdom. They speak our language,” he said angrily.
“We don’t need anything from you. Go away with your cursed self and your troubles and deal with whatever comes your way in the future. Don’t you ever return here”.
“Let this also serve as a strong warning to all those who say whatever they want about Ashanti’s or the Asantehene. Although silent, Manhyia is very active and we are here to bring justice and solve matters not hate on people” he concluded.
